He is a second-generation lawyer because his dad is a lawyer as well. His father and uncle are the senior partners in the law firm. He went to Washington D.C to pursue a career in environmental law and he joined a couple of environmental organizations there. He then moved back to Jacksonville to become a public defender. He focused his practice on criminal law and over 4.5 years as a public defender he tried thousands of cases.
